For Season 3 of My Pleasure: The Unofficial Chickfila Podcast we’ve been on the Tour-de-Chickfila. So far we’ve made three stops at offbeat Chickfila concept restaurants and this week we’re making stop number four: Truett’s Grill.

What is Truett’s Grill?

To celebrate Chickfila founder Truett Cathy’s 50th anniversary of being in the restaurant business he opened Truett’s Grill, a 50’s style diner. There are three locations of Truett’s Grill, each highlighting Truett’s love of transportation. You’ll see retro cars, vintage motorcycles and toy trains on display. Truett’s Grill locations are in Griffin, Georgia, McDonough, Georgia and Morrow, Georgia. Everything that you’ll find at a typical Chickfila location is available on the menu at Truett’s Grill. But there are also southern favorites like fried okra and sweet potato casserole along with diner staples like the Hot Brown.

Truett's Grill

What is a Hot Brown?

A hot brown dates back to 1926 when it was said to be invented at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. A traditional Hot Brown includes the following ingredients:

  • White Bread
  • Turkey
  • Ham
  • Bacon
  • Mornay Sauce

Chick-fil-A’s version of the Hot Brown is not available at every location, but you can order it at Truett’s Grill, which is exactly what we did for this episode of the podcast. It includes lots of melty cheese, creamy sauce and, of course, chicken nuggets. If you’re in the mood for something warm and filling, this may be the perfect meal for you. Jim Mann at the Dwarf House

Chick-fil-A Dwarf House

Our first stop on our Tour de Chickfila was the Dwarf House. Originally built in Hapeville, Georgia in 1946 with only 10 stools and four booths, the 512-square foot diner became the birthplace of the Original Chick-fil-A sandwich. Opened by Truett and his brother Ben, people flocked to the tiny restaurant 24-hours-a-day, 6-days-a-week to chow down on 20 cent cheeseburgers and 65 cent steak plates. The restaurant shut down in April 2021 to undergo a massive renovation. The brand new restaurant reopened in 2022. Guests are welcomed by a life-size statue of Truett sitting on a bench out front. The iconic little red door is still an option for entering the (not so dwarf-like) 10,000 square foot restaurant. Take a tour with Alison and Jim on season 3, episode 1.

Truett's Luau Menu

Truett’s Luau

Our next stop on our epic Chickfila road trip was Truett’s Luau. Less than a year before he passed away, Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy created a unique restaurant concept combining his love of Hawaii with the classic Chickfila brand. Truett’s Luau opened in December of 2013. It’s unique menu includes sweet potato waffle fries, fish tacos and a Hawaiian burger. Buckle up and listen to season 3, episode 3:

Truett’s Chick-fil-A

Truett’s Chickfila is a restaurant dedicated to the legacy of Chickfila founder Truett Cathy. To fuel up for this leg of our Chickfila road trip we sampled the crispy Brussels sprouts, the sweet potato casserole and the fried okra. Be sure to check out our thoughts on these unique Chickfila menu items by listening to season 3, episode 5.
