Treat others the way Chick-fil-A treats you. Great mantra, right? (You can actually get a FREE print with this phrase when you sign up for our newsletter!) That’s how Shannon Hammond lives her life and when she needed it most, Chick-fil-A came through for her, too. She says no matter where she is, or what she’s going through, stepping inside a Chick-fil-A feels like going home. But she hasn’t been “home” in a very long time.

Treat Other People the Way Chickfila Treats You

Shannon has epilepsy. On My Pleasure: The Unofficial Chick-fil-A Podcast, she shared the story of how her first day at work, at the first job she landed after college graduation, she had her first tonic-clonic seizure. It’s also known as a grand mal seizure. Life changed drastically after that. Shannon can no longer drive and she has spent a lot of time in the hospital.

According to Shannon, about 1 in 26 people will receive an epilepsy diagnosis at some point in their life. One-third of those people will have the same diagnosis as Shannon. It’s a very expensive diagnosis and Shannon says it can often lead to discrimination within school or work contexts. All of that can be a tough pill to swallow, but Shannon says she finds joy in her walk with the Lord. And she says God often uses other people—and even Chick-fil-A—to send her encouragement.

One such time came recently. Shannon had been home bound since February. Her closest Chick-fil-A is currently about 45 minutes away. She mentioned on social media how great some nuggets or a number one combo would taste. A friend phoned her “local” Chick-fil-A restaurant in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. They jumped to action to bless Shannon in a major way! They showed up with a huge stash of food and lots of encouragement.

They made a very special delivery, which touched Shannon’s heart deeply and made her love Chick-fil-A even more! It’s a great reminder to “treat others the way Chick-fil-A treats you!”
