Eat Mor… Veggies?? Vegan expert and reality star Holly Julian has a surprising love for Chick-fil-A. Chick-fil-A’s bread and butter is obviously chicken. But did you know their number one selling item is actually vegan-friendly? On My Pleasure: the Unofficial Chick-fil-A Podcast we’re going to get the top tips for eating vegan at Chick-fil-A from an expert. Listen to the entire episode here:
Holly Julian’s Decision to Go Vegan
Holly (Durst) Julian may look familiar because in 2008 she appeared on ABC’s The Bachelor for the “London Calling” season. After that she appeared on the spinoff series Bachelor Pad where she met her now husband, Blake Julian. Not long after she met her husband Blake on reality TV, she watched a documentary called Vegucated that opened her eyes to the downsides of eating meat. Blake’s mom and dad are also vegan and showed Holly how delicious the lifestyle could be. Before that meat was a staple in her diet.
A long time lover of Taco Bell, Holly even had her Sweet 16th birthday party at the fast food joint! Since becoming vegan she has not given up fast food. But she has become an expert on which menu items are vegan-friendly. She says Chick-fil-A is one of her favorites because of all the vegan options. She shared her favorite vegan Chick-fil-A menu items with podcast hosts Alison and Jim.
How to Order a Vegan Chick-fil-A Cool Wrap
Holly’s typical order is the Cool Wrap with no chicken and cheese. Here’s the standard Cool Wrap ingredient list: Sliced grilled chicken breast nestled in a fresh mix of Green Leaf lettuce with a blend of shredded Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheeses, tightly rolled in a flaxseed flour flat bread. Made fresh daily. Pairs well with Avocado Lime Ranch dressing (or guest’s choice of dressing).
Waffle Fries are Always Vegan!
Chick-fil-A’s number one selling menu item is actually vegan. Surprising, isn’t it? Waffle Fries only have three ingredients: potatoes, canola oil, and sea salt. Holly says a lot of fast food restaurants fry their french fries in beef oil or beef fat, something Chick-fil-A does not do. If you happen to be visiting Chick-fil-A in the morning, hashbrowns at Chick-fil-A are also vegan!
Which Dressings & Sauces are Vegan-Friendly
Chick-fil-A’s number one sauce is not vegan– sorry Chick-fil-A sauce fans! But the number two most popular sauce is! Polynesian sauce is vegan. Holly’s other favorite sauce at Chick-fil-A is barbecue. And when it comes to dressings, Light Italian Dressing, Chili Lime Vinaigrette, or Light Balsamic Vinaigrette are all good options for vegans.
Making the Market Salad Vegan
Jim Mann’s favorite menu item is the Market Salad. Holly says when vegans order the Market Salad, just tell staff that you want the Market Salad base. It’ll come without the chicken and cheese. Plus, you’ll actually pay a little less. “Most places, if I say take the meat off, they still charge me the exact same price,” explains Holly. “But Chick-fil-A reduces the price if they’re not going to put the chicken on it.” Good to know!
