What if you move to Hawaii, Alaska or Vermont, the only three states without a Chick-fil-A? Or what if your car breaks down and you can’t get to your nearest Chick-fil-A drive-thru? (Delivery is an option for many, but not everyone has this luxury!) Or what if there’s a global pandemic and everyone is forced to stay home? (Sounds crazy, but it could happen! LOL!) We want you to be prepared for an emergency like this. We’re sharing our favorite copycat Chick-fil-A recipes that you can whip up at home.
We recruited a friend to help us cook up some fun. Evan G. Cooper is a wedding and events planner based in Alabama. He’s a Chick-fil-A fanatic and loves having fun in the kitchen. Evan also does this amazing thing called flower bombs where he leaves leftover wedding flowers all over his community for random people to find. Listen to the podcast to hear the sweet story of how his kindness brought a Chick-fil-A worker to tears:
Evan joined podcast hosts Alison and Jim to re-create tried and true Chick-fil-A recipes at home using copycat recipes. Here are three copycat recipes to try:
Chick-fil-A Frosted Lemonade
Chick-fil-A’s frosted lemonade arrived on the menu back in 2015. It’s definitely a summer favorite. But if you’d like to make a big batch for a summer party, or just try your hand at a DIY version, Evan says this recipe from MyRecipes.com is close to the real thing. Although he admits it’s not identical, he says this copycat recipe is very refreshing and tasty. And when it comes to which brand of vanilla ice cream to use, turns out Evan is very particular and insists on Blue Bell!
Ingredients:
- 4 cups vanilla ice cream
- 1 (12-oz.) can frozen lemonade concentrate
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
How to Make It:
Process all ingredients in a blender until smooth and serve immediately.
Chick-fil-A Sauce
Using the recipe from FamilyFreshMeals.com, Alison quickly whipped together the five ingredients in this easy recipe. The end product didn’t look like the real thing. (The color was more brown, and not as yellow.) And while it didn’t fool her kids, it was pretty tasty.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
How to Make It:
Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate for at least an hour.
Polynesian Sauce
Jim Mann took his job of whipping up a homemade batch of his beloved Polynesian Sauce very seriously. It only takes three ingredients to make a very respectable knock-off at home, according to this recipe from TheFrugalNavyWife.com:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup California French Dressing
- 3 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
- 6 tablespoons honey
How to Make It:
Whisk together, store in an airtight container and refrigerate.
Other DIY Chick-fil-A Tips
Some grocery stores have also tried to copy Chick-fil-A’s delicious chicken in their frozen food aisles. If you shop at Aldi, keep an eye out for the red bag of Kirkwood Breaded Chicken Breast Fillets. Alison says that when she put these on a white bun with pickles and served them up with a healthy helping of Chick-fil-A sauce, they were a very respectable attempt at a real Original Chicken Sandwich.
Evan says that he snatches up frozen nuggets from Sam’s Club for a DIY batch of nuggets. Look for Member’s Mark Southern Style Chicken Bites if you want to try this at-home version. Whip up a batch of your favorite sauce and some frozen lemonade and you’ll be enjoying the taste of CFA without leaving home.
Chick-fil-A is the best! Evan gives me a gift card every Christmas.
